F.A.Q

General

  • What are your contact details?

You can contact us directly via all our contact details at the bottom right of the site or click here to contact us.

  • Do I need to make an account to purchase from your store?

No, there is no need to create an account to shop at retrofix.com.au. You can experience many benefits from having a Retrofix Account such as speedier checkout time, dedicated wish-list and much more! View more F.A.Q about your Retrofix Account below.

  • I want something in particular that you don't have in store. Are you able to source it for me?

Yes, we certainly can. If the item you are after isn't available with us then just contact us and we can either source it for you or let you know when we next come across it if it's particularly hard to find.

  • Whats the best way to keep updated as you release new modified consoles, games, accessories and other products?

We have a few options to keep updated at Retrofix. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter or YouTube. You can also subscribe to our e-mail newsletters on both The Retrofix Main Store & The Retrofix eBay Store.

  • How long has Retrofix Australia been operating for?

We have been operating and specialising in vintage gaming and modifying consoles since 2010. We are constantly growing so be sure to check back as we continue to offer great new products and modifications.

  • I see you also have an eBay store. Are all of your games, accessories and consoles available at both this store and your eBay store?

We are currently working to migrate our inventory from our eBay store to The New Retrofix Main Store, however there is still a huge amount of games, accessories, consoles & more that is, at current, only available from us through our eBay Store. You can find links to The Retrofix eBay Store at both the top and the bottom of the site. We will also from time to time offer special products that are only available on this, our main store and sometimes also offer special promotional auctions on eBay so keep your eyes open!

Consoles & Games

  • Do your modified consoles work on all new LCD, LED, Plasma & Smart TV's?

Yes, you will not only enjoy a much easier set up of your retro console on your HDTV but you will also notice much improved video and audio. You simply connect via your new RCA, RGB, HDMI or S-Video outputs depending on your chosen modifications and select the appropriate source on your TV to play; no more tuning what-so-ever!

  • Are your consoles and games new or second hand?

As the retro consoles and games that we stock were produced some time ago and are becoming increasingly harder to find new, all games and consoles at Retrofix are second-hand refurbished unless otherwise stated. If you are after a retro console thats in new and/or sealed condition then just contact us and we can certainly try to source one for you.

  • What is your testing and refurbishment process for consoles & games?

We are glad you asked! First we take apart every separate possible piece of the item and inspect individually. This includes all buttons, circuit boards, housings etc. All buttons, housings and moving parts are individually and thoroughly cleaned and then polished with specific plastic polish and protectant. This ensures smooth operation of all moving parts and buffs out any minor scratching that has occurred during the items life. All parts, games and items are thoroughly tested by our experienced technician to ensure they are working to their full capacity. When testing consoles for customer orders, we test the console entirely before modification and again upon completion just before we pack and post. All cartridge pins are thoroughly cleaned with isopropyl alcohol, cartridges themselves are polished along with their cases to remove any dust and residue that has built up from age and use.

  • I want to play import games on my Console. Whats the best way to achieve this?

There is a couple of solutions for playing imported games on your console. The best and all round solution is to choose a Retrofix region modification where applicable, which will allow you to simply insert and play the game as you would a native game with no additional accessories needed.
The other solution for some consoles is to purchase a 'converter cartridge' which is a cartridge you plug your import games into allowing it to run via inserting the converter. These are known to not always play 100% of titles and add an additional connection between console and game, creating more problems later from age and use. We often offer various cartridge converters for sale in store, however recommend a Retrofix region modification as the best all round solution.

  • I want to play an imported console in my country. What do I need to do?

There are some stipulations you must consider. Dependent on your country you may need an alternate power supply or step-down converter. You will also need to check that your TV will accept the display signal. Australia, Europe, UK and some parts of South America use PAL. North America and Japan use NTSC.
If you have any concerns, require any further information or need us to help you source an appropriate power supply for your country then just contact us!

  • You offer many different types of outputs for your consoles. Whats the best option for me?

In order of output quality from good to best, our options are as follows: RCA Ouputs --> S-Video Output --> RGB Outputs --> HDMI Output.
All above outputs are of a much higher standard with improved A/V quality than the original stock RF output that was provided by the manufacturer.
You will also need to check that your TV has the appropriate inputs for your chosen modification. Nearly all modern TVs will have RCA inputs, a large percentage will have S-Video. All Modern TVs will have HDMI. Preferred connection for RGB is via XRGB box or direct connection to a RGB monitor.

  • What consoles do you currently modify and sell?

You can check out all the current consoles we offer in our 'products' catagory.

We are always adding new consoles and modifications to our inventory however, so if you have something special in mind or are after a console we don't currently offer publicly just check back regularly or contact us.

  • Who completes the modifications for Retrofix Australia?

At Retrofix Australia all modifications are preformed by our in house developer, designer and technician, Grady MacCallum.

  • What is the difference between your 'Retrofix Classic', 'Retrofix Special' & 'Retrofix Deluxe' Consoles?

Here at Retrofix we have divided our modified consoles options into three pre-designed option sets which have shown to be the most common options selected. All modification options in these packs can also be selected individually however to customize the exact console you want!

We currently only accept 'original & genuine' non aftermarket consoles; ie, we do not accept aftermarket SEGA Blaze consoles as these are actually emulator machines rather than consoles.
